My last find on the west coast of Bergen

Hi glass float collectors!

If you look closely into the picture you'll see a boat house down by the sea,  boat house owner passed away 3 years ago and he was a great guy, fisherman, farmer and carpenter. He worked hard every day for an income and was very clever her daughter told me. He's name was Nils J. Solvik and was situated at Klokkarvik just a few miles north/west from center Bergen. Glass floats added in this post was found upstairs inside he's boathouse during a restoration on the ceiling.
Fishing nets was rotted and had plenty hole, floats and net was in good shape for its age and I bought a few egg floats and an extremely beautiful round 4" float with plenty bubbles, swirls in the glass, look at pictures, it was very difficult to get a picture in the right light to show the real beauty from this float.

All egg floats are approx. 4 x 3" and very old and was used on deep sea fishing net
Antique eggs and beautiful netted.

Anyone interested in a purchase, let me know!

Fishing net with grooved glass floats

Hi Glassfloat collector friends!

This is a very rare find here in Norway and the first grooved glass float fishing net I ever seen, just look at the pictures below and enjoy.

Net with grooved Flesland Glasswork floats was found in a boathouse just about 1 hour drive east from center Bergen, Norway.  Found in a municipality with the name Os. The owner had planned to sell it cut into small pieces with glass floats. But we agreed on a good but somewhat expensive deal for the fishing net, so I am pleased and very satisfyed! And I'm guessing that the new owner is happy and waiting in anticipation to receive a fishing net with all those beauties added and with a quality and historic interest for all float collectors and people with old fishing and antique interest all over the world, especially people from Norway or people who originated from Norway.
Anyway the grooved glass float fishing net was used for fishing at sea (look at the picture with meter added into mask) I guess it was used in a fjord named Bjørnefjorden and other fjords in the Os area.
Thank you for the purchase and take good care of it!

Net is made from rope (not nylon) I guess this net has been dipped in a powder named blåstein = bluestone powder in US language I guess, anyway this blue powder was often used by fishermen here in Norway, it was used to impregnate fishing nets and rope, powder and hot water!

The dotted 9 mark

Hello again glassfloat friends.

I have a question for you collectors out there, have you ever seen or examin a float like the one on picture below? It is an interesting mark but no one seems to be interested in this old and rare float and mark...why?
I remember from my float research that several floats with marks (dotted 9) was found in areas far north. Several samples was found in Vesteraalen area and a few samples was found on the west coast of Finnmark (Havøysund area) I had several samples in my collection, all are now sold to a Norwegian collector in Haugesund area, except for one and you'll find it for sale on Ebay today.

Anyone who know something about this float, were from, who produced it, etc. etc.

GROOVED EGGS FROM NORWAY

Hey Glassfloat friends!

I hope you all will enjoy my blog posts and info + pictures.

As you all know Grooved Eggs from Flesland Glassverk are valuable and every glassfloat collectors must have floats from Norway.
I remember during my research in old archives in state archives here in Bergen and at the library several years ago I found information about a guy and share holder at Flesland Glasswork, he's name was or is Oscar Anderssen and he was the founder or inventer from those grooved eggs here in Norway back in the old days, I don't know when Oscar Anderssen begun the experimential tests or produced grooved eggs but I found paperwork from a Patent or an application for a patent and I guess it was year 1936-38.

I don't remember exactly so if anyone have information and paperwork from the above info please let me know!

From my examin and study of the grooved dotted F and the grooved F1 glass float it seems like both floats has been made from the same form, also blown in a form at Flesland Glassverk. You can find the same indentations all over the float like tiny bumps in exactly the same spots in the glass. look at pictures below:

As mentioned earlier I now have a few eggs up for sale:
One grooved green dotted F and one grooved egg F1. both eggs are great, the dotted egg show some scratches on the edges from use at sea so I have set the price on the dotted egg at 99.00USD and the grooved perfect green(light green) F1 at 125.00USD both eggs will sell together for 220.00USD + shipping 19.00USD
I want to sell after the first man to come, first served basis! FLOATS ARE SOLD!
Congrats to the new owner (Robert)
PICTURES From both and below pictures from the grooved dotted egg first, Enjoy:
